THE HIGHEST VINEYARD IN EUROPE
The Origin.
Bodega Piedra Fluida, a project that began its journey with the vintage of the year 2018 and with a deep commitment for Canary Islands. We have been climbing every step, year after year, from the sea level to the vineyards at more than 1,687 meters high, currently the vineyards grown at the highest altitudes in Europe.
From this commitment arises the concern of recovering old vines and returning to the roots of strains that have been forgotten at an international level, making Bodega Piedra Fluida the guardian of biodiversity.
At Bodega Piedra Fluida we are committed to unique vineyards and traditional techniques.
Let yourself be seduced by the magic of our wines. At Bodega Piedra Fluida, each glass is a sensory journey that begins in our unique vineyards and follows the path of traditional techniques that honor our land.
The volcanic origin of the islands has a direct effect on our soils, being very young and fertile soils, full of minerality. Taking into account these special characteristics of the soil, we obtain a unique wine with character and identity. In Tenerife depending on the region, altitude and exposure we can find differences within the same island. In the north, on the steep slopes of Mount Teide, they are mostly reddish in colour and rich in organic matter. In the south, however, sandier soils tend to dominate.
The Canary Islands, being an anomaly in its geographical environment, has a subtropical climate, with mild thermal conditions and scarce and irregular rainfall that varies according to its orientation and altitude. Tenerife, the island where the vineyards of Bodega Piedra Fluida are located, is characterised among the other islands by the diversity of climates it offers. Due to its unique geography and the effect of the trade winds Alisios, each vineyard in Tenerife has a microclimate. In this way, our vineyards in the north of the island (mainly for red grapes) have a cooler climate, with more rainfall and 80% humidity. While the vineyards in the southern part of the island (mainly white grapes) have a dry and warm climate.
At Bodega Piedra Fluida, given the orographic characteristics of the land, the work is manual, in some cases using the help of mules, because where the machine does not enter, man and animal make their way. With this we also contribute to preserving ancestral works, practically forgotten, such as the ploughing of the land with animals.
The Canary Islands is one of the most important centres of vine biodiversity in the world. The absence of phylloxera and the focus of traditional varieties have contributed to the creation of an extraordinary varietal heritage. The cultivated vines have a history of more than five hundred years in the Canary Islands. Among the red vines, the most common variety is the Listán negro, a vigorous and productive vine that grows at all altitudes and in all microclimates. It is characterized by its special personality and transmits the minerality of the volcanic soil. We must also highlight other minority varieties such as Negramol, Vijariego negro or Baboso negro. Regarding the white vines, the most common is the Listán blanco of the Canaries .It is a very versatile variety that adapts to a multitude of different terroirs and vinifications. It is characterised by a light aroma of peach, dried fruits and fennel.
The vineyards are distributed throughout the island. The viticulture is mainly developed in the midlands (between 300 and 600 metres), although we can find vines planted from almost sea level up to 1687 metres above sea level, which is the case of our wine yard Frontones, being the highest one in Europe. As conducting techniques we can highlight the Parral Tradicional in the northwest, especially in Santa Úrsula, the root stock in the south and low-trellised vineyards of Portuguese influence across the island.

Fresh · Fruity
Viticulture: Traditional 80+ year old parral in El Ojitos, Vidal and La Montañeta, and vaso in Los Frontones.
Production: Blend of grapes from the plots that the winery has in the Pago del Cantillo in the municipality of Santa Úrsula, in the north of Tenerife, and from the plots of Granadilla de Abona in the South of Tenerife. The 2023 harvest in Tenerife has been marked by a large forest fire that affected the island, and which was very close to the Santa Úrsula vineyards. This fire forced the harvest to be delayed, since during the most critical phase it was not possible to access the winery nor the vineyards due to the proximity of the fire. For this reason, the winery this year decided to produce a small part of the red production, collecting only the most select from each plot, which was mixed with grapes from the southern vineyards, which were not affected by the fire. Given Piedra Fluida’s deep commitment with the island, the winery is contributing to the recovery of the island’s forest by donating 1€ of each sold bottle for the replanting of trees in the forests of Tenerife.

At our winery in Tenerife, Piedra Fluida, we produce a wide variety of wines, both white and red. Our white wines are made from grapes grown on the southern slopes of the island, giving them high acidity, a mineral character, and ripe fruit. Our red wines, on the other hand, are made from grapes grown on the northern slopes, resulting in lively and vibrant wines with crisp tannins and fresh fruit. Each of our wines reflects the unique characteristics of our vineyard, located at a high altitude in Tenerife.
The wines from our winery in Tenerife, Piedra Fluida, are unique thanks to a combination of geological and climatic factors found on the island. Located on a "microcontinent," the winery's vineyards benefit from unparalleled complexity and diversity.
Furthermore, the winery boasts vineyards in diverse areas, some situated at high altitudes, others on recently formed volcanic soils, and some employing unique training systems such as the low trellises of Tacoronte. All of this contributes to the quality of the wine, imparting unique and distinctive characteristics such as freshness, lower alcohol content, and pronounced nuances. Our wines are truly exclusive thanks to these unique conditions found only in Tenerife.
In crafting the Canarian wines at our Piedra Fluida Winery, we strive to preserve the vineyard and its landscape, as well as the grape variety, to the fullest extent possible. To achieve this, we work with precision and care, but with minimal intervention.
